Rats can escape if not properly housed. Do not let your rat have free run of your house, as he or she can easily disappear. Your mouse will be happiest indoors at room temperatures from (65 – 85°F). If you have other pets that may harm your rat, keep them in a separate area of room in your home.
Many pet stores offer rat caging made from wire or even glass aquariums without a screen. Make sure your rat cannot escape from its cage.
There is a variety of bedding material for your rat that can be found at most pet stores today. Change your rat's bedding often to prevent bacterial overgrowth from urine and/or feces. This will keep him/her healthier.
