Mice can escape if not properly housed. Do not let your mouse have free run of your house, as he or she can easily disappear. Your mouse will be happiest indoors at room temperatures from (65 – 85°F). If you have other pets that may harm your mouse, keep them in a separate area of room in your home.
Many pet stores offer mouse caging made from wire or even glass aquariums without a screen. Make sure your mouse cannot escape from its cage.
There is a variety of bedding material for your mouse that can be found at most pet stores today. Change your mouse's bedding often to prevent bacterial overgrowth from urine and/or feces. This will keep him/her healthier and reduce the chance of disease.
Here are some examples of acceptable bedding for your mouse.
