Mouse Diet

Water

Mice, like all mammals, need water to survive. Although they get some of their water from their diet they also need access to fresh water all of the time. Your mouse should have a fresh, clean water bottle each day. "Sipper" water bottles can be suspended inside the cage for easy reach. You should clean the water often to keep bacteria from growing inside.

Core diet

Mouse chow or kibble can be found at most pet stores. Diets containing seeds and nuts are not recommended – these should be given as treats only. Fresh food should be available at all times.

Mouse Chow or Kibble

Most mouse kibbles and pellets sold in pet stores are properly balanced in nutrition.

Seeds, Vegetables, and Fruits

Seeds, nuts, and fresh clean vegetables and fruits should be only 10% of your mouse's diet.

Treats

Mice can have a small amount of each of the following: seeds and nuts, fresh clean vegetables and fruits, and fresh hay (alfalfa). Remember, treats should only comprise 10% of your mouse's diet.

Supplements and Vitamins

Supplements and vitamins are not necessary for your mouse.
