Grooming

Brushing

You may brush your guinea pig daily with a soft baby brush. This will help remove some of the loose hair and lessen shedding. Brushing is especially important for longhaired guinea pigs, less necessary for shorthaired Guinea Pigs.

Bathing

Guinea pigs seldom need baths and some are never bathed. If your guinea pig required bathing, shampoos formulated for small animals will help avoid dry skin. Use a shallow bowl of warm water to bathe him/her in. Make sure you rinse and dry your guinea pig thoroughly to avoid chills.

Nails

Using a small pair of nail clippers, clip only the tip off your guinea pigs nails. There are three toes in the front and four in the back. Some guinea pigs have an abhorrent nail located where the thumb would be on the forepaws. These can be clipped, too.
