Bathing Your Ferret

You should only bathe your ferret once every several months, at the most. Too frequent bathing can lead to problems, such as dry skin. If you are trying to reduce the odor of your ferret, ensure that his/her bedding is changed on a weekly basis.

  • Make sure you use a ferret-safe shampoo.
  • Some ferrets don't like water, so you may want to bathe them in the sink, rather than a larger bathtub.
  • Always remember to keep any shampoo out of your ferret's eyes.
  • Over-bathing can lead to your ferret's skin becoming very dry and itchy.
  • Warm, not hot, water should be just right for bathing your ferret.
  • When bathing your ferret, remember to run your fingers through his/her fur to get the fur completely wet.

Some precautions

  1. Supervise your ferret while he/she has access to the tub or water.
  2. The temperature of the water should not feel warm or hot to your hand.
  3. Don't force your ferret into the water if he or she is afraid.
  4. Avoid using a blow dryer on your ferret, as he/she can overheat.
