Skin Tumors
Basic facts

Mast Cell Tumors:
- Neoplasms that appear on the skin
- Generally not life-threatening
- They are discrete, raised, red lesions that have no hair within the borders
- Your ferret may have multiple ones at once, or they may appear in different places
- These tumors mediate a variety of vascular reactions in the body, usually of an allergic nature
- They are benign tumors
Sebaceous Epitheliomas (Basal Cell Tumors):
- Wart-like growths
- Not life-threatening
- They are benign tumors
- Sometimes misdiagnosed as spider bites
Apocrine Tumors:
- Come from scent glands
- Common around the neck, head, prepuce, and vulva
- They can be simple cysts, benign neoplasms, and rarely malignant
Chordomas:
- Are malignant neoplasms, but rarely metastasize (spread to other areas)
- Normally found on the tip of the tail
