Otoscopy

What is otoscopy?

Otoscopy is the process of examining the ear with a fiber optic scope. This technique offers major benefits over using a traditional otoscope where the veterinarian looks through a small scope with one eye. In this procedure, the image is clearly displayed on a TV screen. As a result, the picture is larger and clearer and we can better diagnose the problem and decide upon the best treatment.

Do all veterinarians use otoscopy?

No, it is a newer procedure and many vets don’t have this technology. This procedure offers such major benefits to diagnose and treat ear disease that at The Bradley Hills Animal Hospital we have one in each exam room and in the surgery room.

What procedures can you do with otoscopy?

We can not only look in the ear to better diagnose the problem, but we can also obtain samples for culture, flush the ear thoroughly, obtain biopsies and do laser surgery through this scope.
