Routine Tests for Your Cat

The Doctors at Bradley Hills Animal Hospital recommend routinely screening your pet for intestinal parasites and for contagious viral and bacterial diseases. If your pet shows any symptoms that cause you concern, the Doctor may recommend other laboratory tests.

  • Fecal examination – screens for common intestinal parasites, some of which may be transmitted to humans.
  • Giardia test – screens for a common intestinal parasite of dogs and cats that is intermittently shed in the feces and may not appear on a routine fecal examination.
  • Feline Leukemia and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) test – screens for two viruses that can predispose your cat to contracting infections by weakening his/her immune system. Knowing whether or not your pet has either of these viruses is very important to keeping your cat happy and healthy.
  • Ear mite check – screens for a common parasite that lives in the ears and may cause your pet to scratch excessively; if left untreated, infestation may progress to hearing loss.
