The Doctors at Bradley Hills Animal Hospital recommend using flea and tick preventative year-round, as infestation with these can cause flea allergy dermatitis, an allergic reaction to flea bites that can lead to hair loss and scabs, as well as tick-borne illnesses, such as Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever.
Flea control products are available in a variety of forms, including topical applications and oral medications. Most clients prefer the spot-on applications, which are applied to the skin on your pet’s back. These are applied once per month and work by killing adult fleas. Oral medications are given once per month and prevent eggs from hatching.
Deworming your pet with an oral medication at the time of his/her annual vaccine visit controls intestinal parasites. The medications we use here are safer and more effective against a wider range of organisms than the ones you can purchase at a pet store.
